The Birds

The mysterious yellow green bird was back at the feeder.
This is a bad picture.  I tried to enhance it.
Before:

After:

It's bad, I know.
But it was taken between slats in a blind and a dirty glass window.
Stepping on tippy toes and holding my breath.

I could spend the whole day just watching these little things.
(They make quite the mess, don't they?)

This little thing hit the screen too hard.

It was stunned.  Little chickadee needed a moment to collect itself...

...figure out what happened and catch it's breath.  Then off it flew.

Then I thought that I have a lot of birds in the house too.
Birds that hold matches...

...that hang on walls...

...that perch on furniture and all sorts of places.

I have so many birds.  They're all over the place.
I'll show them later.  First, I'll have to dust.
I don't want to.  (That's for the birds.)

Awww... it's Valentine's Day

Feeling stuck in the mud?
A little forlorn?
Well, here's my ode to love:

A SuperHuman walks by you one day.
and notices you're not quite yourself.

But you say to yourself,
"Self, you're just a little plastic decoy.  Who cares? Who notices that
you're stuck in the mud?"

Someone cares.
Someone out there cares.

Who's your SuperHuman?

Even if you're a cold, hard, plastic duck decoy,
isn't it nice knowing
that a SuperHuman is looking out for you?
Love them back.
(And stay out of the mud.)

Be thankful for love on Valentines Day.

Rambunctious Buns

Rambunctious Buns has learned to jump on the side table shelves.

When shoo shooed off, he scampers in a mad dash around the room.

He pesters He-Man, wanting more attention.

He jumps on our computers when he doesn't get it.

He gets a sampling of pumpkin pie (no crust).

Then it's time for Bunny Tunnel play time.

He finally gets the attention he's craving.

Then it's time to lounge in front of the fire.

May you be so relaxed and refreshed this Sunday,

The Last Few Days I've Been...

... preparing to do this...

...visiting this...

...which resulted in this...

...then spent three nights doing this...

...arose to prepare this...

...which we dug up from this...

Afterwards, we came in and smelled this.

That's what we've been doing on
Whippoorwill Road.

Gettin' Stuff Done and Done Again

(sigh*)

 We've become trashy people.

No denying it.  We have house trash, yard trash and garage trash.
Well no longer!  The elimination process begins!
We head to the dump.

Though we mapped out the dimensions of the garden once,

we re-plow to enlarge it, again

These are my suffering roses.  We planted them two years ago.  They were for Mother's Day.
They're on the wrong side of these big evergreens and have struggled valiantly ever since.

We have to replant them on the other side.

Oh yeah, and that load we drove all the way to the dump?
The dump was closed and we brought it all home again.

One step forward, two steps backward.
Sometimes it just feels that way

Is Spring is Here?

Proof that Spring is Here
(though it's still technically Winter)

I'm going to embrace this weather.  Instead of (emotionally) fighting it.

The first Robins of spring have arrived.  I saw them today.  Unfortunately you can't really see them in this photo...

...or in this photo.

Remember the bushy liriope?  They finally got their haircut.  The leaves are feeding the compost bin.

We worked hard putting this path in the woods.  It was during the heat of August.  The payoff will be in a few months.  I hope a good number of  transplanted liriope survived.  This is one tough plant.

(This was the inspiration.)

I enjoyed my little stroll on Whippoorwill Road on this winter day.

Breaking Ground

Breaking ground...literally.

He-Man begins to plow up the ground. He insists that
two 10x4 ft. rectangles are too small.
"Okay, but everyone tells me to start small."
He wins out and the new dimensions are 12x4 ft. each.
Oh, and the compost bin is already half full.

Thanks for the loaner, Dad.  It works great.

This is a good starter size.  There will be a two foot perimeter around the whole garden and a two foot path dividing the two beds.
We will line them with landscape fabric to deter weeds, keep mowers away and define the space.
We've limed the soil, there was a nice little drizzle to moisten the ground and now we plan the next steps.
ie: getting water to the area, fencing...
(Richard is going to be so relieved when I go back to work.)

While relaxing on the back porch, this little yellow bird came to the feeder.  It's the second day I've seen it.
I tried to capture it on my cell phone.  I looked images up but I'm not sure.
Any ideas?

It's a strikingly yellow green bird.  I wish I had a better photo.

I like to relax outside after all the hard work and take it all in: the sights, the sounds, the smells.  He-Man, on the other hand, is done with the outdoors and showers as quickly as possible to retreat indoors.
Now look what I would have missed had I done the same.

It was a nice day on Whippoorwill Road.
Hope yours was too.
Love,
Bernadine
